Whats up ppl,

so i've been in taipei for a few days just relaxing, spending time with family/relatives and my girlfriend. watched 300 today it was pretty damn good. not a lot of poker for me at all because i'm on vacation bitches lol. i've had a lot of time to reflect how i want to approach poker and what i'm going to do with school. today during lunch i had a pretty good discussion between my mom and her friends. we came to a conclusion that pausing school for one year while i pursue poker 100% might be a viable option. I'm just waiting for my dad to get back so I can talk to him about that. if I can somehow pause school and really work on poker, i'll give it my best and I think it'll give me even more time to play, think, and coach my students.

if i do take time off i might relocate back to taiwan. probably a smart thing to do since i'll be with family and friends and also cost of living is lower. i'll also be able to hire personal trainers to make sure i get fit. probably get fatter too cuz i'll eat better here. i'm really lookin forward to go 100% at poker w/out having to worry bout passing classes. and on top of that i'm going to be able to use much better payment processors like neteller/firepay since i'll be using a chinese bank account and probably will play on non american sites like Partypoker or Crypto. This might be very very helpful to my winrate. I think there is no doubt that ub's 2-4 is tougher than party's 2-4 so if i can consistently beat ub's 2-4, i think i'll be more than fine at partypoker.

my friends and relatives have shown tremendous support and i'm very happy to be where i am today. i'm nowhere near where i want to be someday but i think i'm well on my way. i think right now, my mind set is right and my work ethic is there, i'm just gona havta put the pieces of the puzzle together. I've also bought a lot of books lately on a lot of subjects. if i do stop school i'm gona be spending a lot of time reading on stuff i'm actually interested in so i think that'll make me a much more knowledgable person than going to school and learning about brains lol.

anyways, my internet here is slow as shit so i officialy cannot do any lessons until i get back. i can however review videos. so if you have a video, go ahead and upload it somewhere where i can d/l (keep the file size small too) and i'll review it. be aware i charge the same hourly rate for the video reviews. thats it ppl and gl tearin up the tables

I've been taking a few days off with stickboney just chillin and splurging a bit....

actually most of the stuff in this pic is stickbonye's lol. in this pic i bought the prada sunglasses and the bang & olufsen earphones

upscale shop associates really know how to talk. we went to burberry, and the lady was so good at making us feel balla. asian lady "oooooooooooooo you guys profesiono pokah playas? wooooooooooooooow soooooooooooooooo young, you guys must be smmmmartttt." lol and peter was like yeah i'll take this, that, yeah and why not that too. LOL ya. so he bought a bunch. we each spent bout 1k, nothing too balla but i've never really spent 1k of my own money on random shit, before I just used my mom's credit card, feels pretty good to spend your own money

poker hasn't be going too well lately. I'm lacking quiet a bit of focus. Last night I put in a good session with 100% focus. I'm going to turn off all my AIM/MSN from now on when I play. focus is sooooooo key

ATTENTION: New policy regarding lessons

Recently this week I've had numerous cancellations/reschedules of lessons. I understand things come up and stuff but you guys have to understand that I've set a time aside each day for everyone of you, and whenever someones misses a lesson, it screws up my schedule, especially if its the starting time already and you have not even contacted me, wait for me to contact you and say you want to reschedule/cancel. I have definitely been not happy about that.

Make up lessons are not as easy as it sounds because everyday I have set it for one specific student. As I've stated in my teacher bios, I want DEDICATED students who are SERIOUS about the game. I'm looking for long term mentoring and you not giving me 110% effort will not cut it. I'm sorry to be so blunt but I come from a community where respect for your instructor is highly regarded. I honestly feel like just because some of you are getting to know me more, the respect is started to get sloppy, especially with lesson times.

Therefore, I'm going to enforce a new policy where all of my students are allowed 1 reschedule/cancel per month and if for any reason you stood me up (not even telling me about the cancellation/reschedule) you are automatically disqualified from my "school." That to me is extremely disrespectful. Contact me about it, not wait for me to contact you. You are the student, be proactive. I have currently 25 people on the waiting list, so if you are not working hard to stay in, then get out, there's plenty of people who want in.

If you feel like I'm being too harsh or whatever, then leave. During my time as instructor, i'm not here to be a baby sitter. I'm here to be an instructor to push you hard, to make you good. If I don't become strict like this, things get sloppy and your play will show, guaranteed. If you think this is too much for you then tell me before hand so I can replace someone, many are desperately trying to get in and are offering better hourly rates. Your spots are very valuable, I hope you appreciate the spot and my effort to make you a better player.

So basically, only 1 cancellation/reschedule is allowed every calendar month. If more than that you will be disqualified. Also not contacting me about cancellation/reschedule 12-24hsrs before hand will also result in the same consequence. My time is very limited. I hate to do something like this but I've had 4 reschedules this week......so its getting pretty out of hand. If you feel like weekly lessons are too much then please tell me so I can find you another instructor.

Also, contact me for my number and give me yours for easier cancellation/reschedules

Warning: obvious brag post, so proceed with caution

after a huge downswing (-18 buy ins) in like 14k hands, i finally turned it around, and damn did i turn this around. just check out this fucking graph

note: this graph is missing $1.6k of profits, so do the math

damn man winning feels so damn good. i remember i used to win i'd be like, yeah whatever $2k, pshhh just 5 buy ins. i think you can't take your winnings for granted. when you win, appreciate it, appreciate your luck, appreciate your hard work, and appreciate everything. taking winnings for granted will inhibit you from taking losses too well since you are "supposed" to win.

this downswing has given me so much more insight to the game that i also "appreciate" the downswing despite being in absolute agony while i was in it. but right now, i play very focused poker. just like one table today where i was playing stickboney, you can ask him, i didn't make any bad moves at all, for 2 hrs straight i just focused on playing goot solid poker.

alright i'll admit i've been running pretty hot, but its not like i've been suckin out. i haven't been, i've been just hittin my hands and maximizing values on my made hands and inducing a lot of bluffs from people.

this is my graph, in big bets, from january to now. basically its half 200 and half 400. steady wouldn't you say?

Sunday, March 11, 2007

Ok. First of all, everyone go read stickboney's blog entry. its the entry on march 10th. its a very useful post. link to his site is on the right of my page or goto www.xanga.com/cribby23

anyways, today i was under the weather but i played anyway. i was not focused and my results showed. i made some pretty stupid plays. i broke even at the end but i should've been up given my cards. pretty frustrating as i ended the session early since i was really not in it. later tonight i was still feelin a lil under the weather but better, so i decided ya kno, i gota play some hands. i made sucha good decision by just browing thru stickboney's blog and what he said really got to me. i then took a shower, cleared my desk, and sat down to play some very good solid AND focused poker.

I really think that when you focus, you play much better and ur results/winrate will show by itself. I played an excellent session. Made very few mistakes and some very solid plays. Came out a 4.5 buy in winner tonight. moral of the post is to always stay focused and if you find yourself not focusing, then stop and don't play until you recoup yourself.

I also, I added a pic of patrik antonius because he is my biggest poker idol. The reason being is that this guy has it all. he's tall, good looking, athletic, rich, drives an aston martin vanquish, destroys the highest limit on FTP, can get any girl he wants, his gf is hot, tremendous respect from everyone, considered by many THE best NL hold'em player in the world, lives in the bellagio, AND holds titles to EPT. This is exactly what kind of accomplishment i'm trying to look for and this is exactly what i want to do with poker, is to achieve the above results. this is why he's one of my biggest idols in poker and i'm gona try very very hard to one day be like him. that it all

Good news ppl, i've recovered..in just 2 days lol. heres the graph

some things i've learned in this downswing:

- stretches like these are gona separate the big winners from marginal winners. it is so important to keep your cool and not tilt while you are running bad

- luck is not a factor to blame. everyone will get coolered and at the end of the day, your decisions will determine your results - sbrugby. don't point any fingers, the only person/thing to blame is yourself. look over hands, you'll be surprised how many small mistakes u made

- do not get into the, i'm gona play a ton so i can get out of it quicker. its true, but when you get into that grind mode, you stop thinking about every play. instead you fire up as many tables as you can to put in more hands. not a good idea. always be thinking about your decisions and put your opponent on ranges

- very beneficial to get a "game check" preferrably by someone who is at your level or higher. a lot of the times you think you are just running bad but in reality your game is just not solid enough. you might not have big major leaks, but small leaks can add up and kill your winrate. so watch someone play, have someone sweat u, or get a coach (or 2)

- do not focus too much on numbers. I kno the fact that my ptbb dropped from 5.77 all the way down to 2.6 killed my confidence. remember as one of my friend told me "poor ppl focus on the results/numbers, rich ppl focus on the process"

- believe in yourself. its very easy to get down on yourself and feel like maybe you cannot beat this limit whatever and it'll be hard to come out of the cycle. its like depression. but if you don't believe you can dig out, no one can help you. everytime you sit down at a table, ask yourself, what's gona happen, always think positive and be like "i'm gona kick these players asses and win a couple of buy ins."

- absolutely do not move up and chase losses. i know i didnt' and that's probably how i could get out of the downswing so quickly. also i think this illustrates how 20 buy ins is not even CLOSE to enough for bankroll management. a player of my caliber can easily swing down 18 buy ins....by the time you reach -10 buy ins, 1/2 of ur roll is gone, that will be psychologically so devastating. and you might have to move down. throughout this stretch, i started with 110 buy ins so it sure helps to have a huge bankroll.

- do not take winnings for granted. i think that's what i did. i expect to win everytime i sit down. its not necessarily a bad thing to "expect" winnings but you just have to realize that you cannot win every session.

conclusion: in a sense i think bad runs are good for you. it forces you to readjust your game and forces you to become a better player. w/out this huge bad run i would've probably never learned some of the stuff above "the hard way" i think learning it the hard way is really beneficial for me as i will remember how to deal with the agony of losing next time i lose and how to bring myself out of it. so when you run bad, don't be pissed, be "happy" in a sense because you will learn from it and sooner or later come out of it being a better player. i actually don't want to be just winning all the time, it may sound weird, but right now i love it when i lose, because it'll make me stronger. there is a reason whenever i break even if i say "fuck i rather be down" because when i'm down i force myself to look closer at my HH's and what not and it'll all just make me a better player in the long run

Thursday, March 08, 2007

so, i got myself another coach today. i liked my coach right now, BK, he's awesome, but i think its good to have a 2nd opinion of how your play is

basically, his first impression of my play is identical to BK's: "you seem to play very solid and have a good fundamental understanding of the game. I can assure you are a winner."

it is really great to hear someone who's better say those kind of words to you. its juts so encouraging, especially since i'm in sucha gay ass downswing right now. i'm not gona go out and say what i'm gona change about my game because i think some of my opponents have been reading my blogs and trying to pick my game apart but i just have to say the session with the new coach was extremely interesting. he thinks very different then me, post flop that is. not VERY, but the things he think about are much more subtle but they will add up in the long run.

i think it was very +ev for me to pay him to watch me play tonight as I again see that i have ALOT of leaks, not major, but minor leaks to work on plugging. i'm always trying to perfect my game and i will do so until i die one day. tomororw i'm gona play some more good solid poker and hopefully get myself up a couple of buy ins so i can get on the winning track again. the cards weren't so terrible for tonight but still kinda bad.....one hand

http://www.pokerhand.org/?886719

-so awesome. made a perfect read and a TOUGH call just to get rivered. the other guy who folded said he had the nut flush draw. so i was up against a 7 outer. sigh. i hate it when i make sucha good read but still get sucked out anyway. what can i say, i got it in as a favorite (74%) so i guess poker just hates me right now

if any of you want a second opinion on your game, i have someone that will be able to check out your game. him n i started playin poker together but we have some distinctly different styles although i believe our mentality is the same. he's very knowledgable and definitely can help ppl beat the lower stakes games

Wednesday, March 07, 2007

Alright, i've still been heading south. i just dropped another 1.8k today, bringing my march total to -6.1k. played 11k hands so far. obviously i'm too happy about it. but i'm dealing with it. i'm not here to bitch about suckouts and set up hands as everyone gets em, i just want to i guess let out some of my frustration here.

this is my biggest downswing ever, in terms of dollars. before, when I manage to go on this kind of sick beats, i'd probably already been playing a ton of blackjack, or trying to get even. i think the bet with brendan is really working. i find myself not even wanting to play blackjack anymore. its just so fucking -ev. and i don'twant to play any higher stakes games cuz i kno i'm on tilt and will probably run bad anyway....i think this is a huge step for me. so i'm down 6.1k, very often, when i go donw like 2k or so, i'd go tilt at bj and a lot of the times i'd end up going down another 1k. or go tilt at 5-10 and go down a buy in etc. i think i'm saving myself quiet a bit of money by gettin rid of this habit and in the long run this will REALLY help my winrate....

come to think of it, my winrate, even after this ridiculous downswing (which might not be over yet), is still at 3.2ptbb. although it is not somethin i'm very proud of, but some people struggle to even maintain a 3.2 even when their cards are ok. so i guess in a sense i'm still pretty happy since 3.2 is still respectable but its the figure thats after my huge downswing, which means if i get my heater i'll be back to 4.5, or 5 very easily.

imo, this is the kind of stretch that breaks of makes a great player. this stretch has been so tough and frustrating its unbelievable but i think i'm taking it pretty well. obviously i'm pissed n all that but i think i'm taking this better than the majority of the players. i'm not gona be happy about that because i want to take it better than ALL the players not just the majority. i did tilt like 1-2 buy ins away so despite the improvement, i'm still looking to get better. call me a perfectionist if you want

i just want to be a great player one day. living in bellagio, playing online during the day, and playing the live games at night. its not a dream anymore, its something i want and its something that i'm going to strive to do, no matter how long and hard it may take. i started off just wanting to make some extra cash, but i really think i can make it big. i'm not gona settle for beating the 3-6 nl games online making like 30k a month. i'm gona eventualy become a regular at the 200/400 game on full tilt and make like 500k a month.

i feel like currently i'm playing some of the best poker of my life but the results just aren't there. i dont' want to bitch about the results beucase i know i'm playing well. if thats true, it will turn around sooner or later. i'd really hate to have a losing month but if this is what its going to be then i have to take it. and i have a feeling that some of my students are startin to feel that maybe i'm not so good as they thought i was and maybe my numbers were luckboxed before.....well i dont' really want to say anything more about that because i know and everyone knows what kind of player i am, if you really think i'm not worth the money then by all means tell me and i'll replace you with someone else who is trying to get in. keep in mind my waitin list is 25 ppl so if you feel like i'm not worth your money then please leave, that is all

also. this is why i advocate so many buy ins. i had 120 buy ins for 400 and now i've lost 15 of it. from my graph it looks like a tiny dip and psychologically maybe it is why i'm taking this so well cuz going down 6k is bad, but definitely not even close to destroying my roll. i still have about 44k of bankroll so this allows me to keep playing 400 and not having to drop down.....think about this and tell me if you still think 20-30 buy ins are enough. i gota tell ya, 15 buy in downswings WILL happen to EVERYONE. so if you are workin a short roll, i recommend u rethink about it

very interesting session today....

http://www.pokerhand.org/?877333

http://www.pokerhand.org/?877336

http://www.pokerhand.org/?877339

as you guys can probably see from these hands....not a good way to start off the session. i started off "alright" went up like 1-2 buy ins, and all of these hands above happened in about 10 minutes. it was absolutely SOOOO fucking frustrating. all in preflop K3o?!!?! are you serious?! at that point after these hands i was down about 5 buy ins....-2k.....

at this point, i was obviously very frustrated. i was contemplating whether to stop for today, or to keep playing. i was like, i could stop right now, but i think i'm playing pretty good solid poker right now. i decided that since i was playing pretty good, that i'd continue..so i did. more frustrating spots (smallish) came up, everything just wasn't going my way. but i just kept telling myself, "you're playing well right now, keep playing good solid poker and at some point it will have to turn around, maybe not tonight but just keep pluggin away because you are playing well." there were these guys that'd just push all in on me all the time, guys potting everything, guys calling all my bets etc. it was obviously ridiculous and frustrating but i just kept telling myself to keep playing good solid poker and just be patient.....well in like 3 hands, i won back almost all of my losses.....

http://www.pokerhand.org/?877374
- standard repop with JJ, but when that guy who cold called went all-in, initially i was like wtf and wanted to throw my hand away. but i thought about it for a little and was thinking, does he really play AA/KK/QQ this way....not likely. from my experience climbing up stakes, these kind of plays usually is a lower pocket pair puttin me on AK. a lot of the time this is used to isolate but there is no one to isolate in this hand. villain's stats is 28/15 so it makes no sense as to why he would not reraise with the premium hands. at the end, i put him on either AK or pp like 8's or 7's putting me on AK. good thing my hand held ship it.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?877379

http://www.pokerhand.org/?877383

ended up the day +$250.....moral of the post is: stay patient even if everything is not going your way. keep you calm, stay cool, and keep pluggin away, the more you play, the sooner you will hit your big hands and get paid off, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, and maybe not this whole week, but keep pluggin, it will come. however, if you at any point not playing well, stop immediately!

i'm very very happy with my results today as it was just bad spots all over the place. to end the session up is marvelous. i handled myself EXTREMELY well today despite being so frustrated and I have to say this is probably THE best session i've played in my life so far. i'd give myself an A for today's play...final word, just stay calm and keep patience. it might sound cheesy but i have to say this, i came up with this phrase myself btw...

"control your mind and you will control the table"

could not be anymore true

-$3.3k.............in 1500 hands

biggest lose in a single day at 2-4. this son of bitch he all night just check, check check! he trep me!

if any of you see me playin outside my bankroll, stop me IMMEDIATELY!

ty prdonk for preventing further damage to my bankroll......gona play goot tomorrow

edit...

I think I played pretty well, in the first half of my session. at that point I was down about $2.2k already. It was just quiet a bit of bad spots and people were hittin hands on me. So i mean 5.5 buy in downswing is pretty bad, but not as bad as it looks. It also didn't help when I can't seem to win a race against shorties, whether i'm with AK or 77. I did have one tilt call towards the end and I was like saying to myself "ok this is probably gona be a tilt call, if you call and lose here, you have to stop." and so I called "cuz i was semi tilty" but I did stop all the tables immediately right away and was bitchin all of this to prdonk and it helped a lot. i'm proud to say that I DID NOT play any blackjack, or any higher limit games cuz when I called that hand, which was, I 3bet a button raiser, who was pretty loose with 22, and the flop comes 3 4 7, two hearts n i bet n he open shoves for $400 more, I put him on somethin I can beat "two overs + fd" n made the call but he had JJ. I knew that call was made cuz i wanted to "cut down and chase some losses" and although his shove is suspicious, even with two overs n a flush draw he has a million outs against 22. But i did stop immediately cuz i just knew i wasn't playing "good, solid poker" anymore.

So i'm down 3.3k today, which is a shit load of money. buy in wise, im down 8 or so buy ins. its not THAT bad although pretty damn bad buy in wise. i've had many days before which i dropped 10+ buy ins in 1 day. but yeah i'm tryin not to think about it too mcuh and come back strong tomorrow. I have a lot of confidence in myself and it sure helps when people around me reassure me that i'm a good player and this will only make me better and i will recover no time. I, however, will not just take this for granted. I'm not gona think "ok i'm gona recover anyway." tomorrow i'm going to hopefully work with brendan and find some more spots where i'm making bad plays and just continue to improve as a player. I think i've improved tremendously over february and the fact that I didn't play anymore today was good. Alot of times before going down 3.3k in one night will end up in a couple scenarios:

1: Blackjack until busto (which was wayyyyy old)
2: Blackjack until robusto (even, or since i'm so greedy up at least a couple hundred = rarely ever happens...)
3: Blackjack some winnings back (happened before but % is quiet low)
4: Blackjack and go down another grand or two (90% rate of occurence here)

so basically I think I saved myself a grand or two by not chasing losses.....which is good imo. its quiet hard to simply quiet when you're losing a lota money. you wana just win it back right away. i'm just gona say use this advice that prdonk gave me, n in a way FORCED me to do...

1. immediately quit the tables when you realize you've made a "tilt" play
2. close your poker client
3. do not open your poker tracker and review hands (do it tomorrow)
4. do not look at the graph and agonize how horrible that downswing looks (do it tomorrow)
5. do not agonize over your decreased winrate (i do this quiet a bit)
6. just walk away from the computer or chat with someone online or play some video games
7. DO NOT play anything money related for the rest of the night
8. try to book a session with me the next day or two to look over the hands to see if its just "coolers" or you actually made mistakes. a lot of the time i'm sittin there sayin this is sucha fucking cooler but after reviewing its not really a cooler because I should've done somethin different

anyways, i think tilting today costed me about 1k or so......so yeah, gona learn from that and become better tomorrorw. not so good of a start to the month, but it seems like i start most months like this. gona grind it out at 2-4 for now and hold off the move to 3-6 maybe until april

graphs for u guys

so if you ever go down like 6 buy ins at nl 100 or somethin, before you complain, read this thread and just remember, "ray had it much worse" and with my bankroll requirement, your BR should be able to easily take a -8 buyin ds. this is why i don't think 20 buy in is even close to enough.........

February results post:
quiet an interesting month this is. moved up to 2-4 officially with the help of Brendan and Peter, ran goot and made some money, BT joined CR and I have to say his videos totally changed my style of play, and I went from just a poker player to now a player and a teacher of 9 students....

the sad thing is, I'm going to have to cut it down. initially I was looking to cut down to 5, but everyone seems to want to stay and are pretty dedicated so I'm gona go 6-7. Basically everyone gets 1 day per week. My rates will again increase because I will be moving to NL600 soon in March. It's gona be hard for me but I don't want anyone to walk away here with hard feelings. I have not decided who to keep and who to leave out but I will in the next 2 weeks or so. It looks like people who are lower limits and who are not willing to pay the high hourly rate will have to go.....

ok. to my results of this month, pretty impressive i'd say. This is my 4th month officially starting over at NL 6max and I think i've done quiet well. I also learned to just play "good solid poker" all the time and I did just that today, up 2k adding to my results...here it is

Basically all 2-4 NL
hands: 41k
Amount won: $19k @ 5.70ptbb/100
Bonuses: $750
Rakeback: $2k

which brings me to $21.75k
which in turn translates to: NT 720k.....

I have also some money from lessons and 2k7 (ship it) but i dont' want to count those in
but for those that wanna know, its about another 2.5k or so
graph for feb

also, notice my new logo on top of my blog. one of my students, idda, made it. i think its sick. props to him for that one

I fucking hate school

I seriously don't see a point of me continuing. the stuff i learn in class, i'm never gona use them again. i'm never in my life going to a psychiatrist or some kinda neuro fucking scientisit. seriously, who gives a fuck what visual field does what and how you perceive image etc. studyin for that shit seriusly put me on life fuckin tilt so much. i don't know what to do. i'd love to be able to not goto school and do my thing all day but i know going to school and finishin it would be the "right" thing to do....

I always thought, you know i have just 1 year left, i guess i'll just grind it out. but right now, i feel like its SUCH a waste of time its not even funny. i have 0 motivation and everything about school pisses the shit outa me. seriously in a dilemma here. i just talked to my mom and obv she doesn't like the idea. she told me u kno college is 'basic' education and its basically a requirement for "most" ppl. but i told her, "mom i aint no most ppl, i'm not gona be a normal person if you haven't been able to tell already..." n she just got kinda upset and i hate to see that happen cuz i kno she wants the best for me but i don't really know what her son has become right now....i'm making TWICE to THREE times the salary of a medical doctor in Asia. a decent one that is.....

this is the figure here:

normal salary in taiwan USD: $700-1k
manager salary in taiwna: $2k
doctor salary in taiwan: $5-7k
small time celeb: $3-4k

me in february (1st month at nl400): $21k

i dont' know what else to say but i think the money speaks for itself really. i'm not so concerned about the money right nwo but i don't know why this kind of figure is not convinceable for my mom to realize that i have soooooooo much potential in poker. i didn't just realize that today but i've known that i will be the best one day, not because i have some kinda supernatural power that can seee through your soul, but because i'm going to work harder than everyone else. i've always aimed my eyes at the top and until i reach it, i'm not gona stop....i just feel like school is kinda slowing me down in my progress to the top and i'm not really sure what to do. after all, "dropping out" of college is a HUGE disgrace for the society in asia and you guys all know that asian ppl love "FACE" more than anything else. they want to brag which college their son graduated from...

i'm really in a dilemma here because i know that for now, the "right" thing to do is to just stick it in and finish schoool because 'normal' ppl would do it. but what is the "best" thing to do for me at this point. maybe i'm being blinded here in reality bcuz i'm overestimating my poker abilities, which i dont' think i am.....but maybe some of you guys can give me some inputs on what you think. i know many of you have families and jobs and are older than i am....what do you guys suggest?

ps. i'm thinkin about bein a balla n just paying someone to pass all the classes for me. i'm serious. albeit not the most princely thing to do, but sounds like a solution to me lol. n yes i'm serious

Alright ppl, prepare to see some sick reads....

hand #1

brief intro. so andyakb has been 3 betted by me a ton, but all those times i actually did have hands. he was gettin a little frustrated and i can tell (i duno how) but i could easily tell he was really gettin frustrated by me. so then he makes a button raise, i've got AK, i repop, standard...

to the flop, i'm oop n i bet out pot w/out thinking too much, hopin he'd fold. in retrospect i think i should've made it like 85, cuz 100 just looks like i wnat him to fold. now he raises to 400 which is a big big raise. i'm sittin here thinkin, i think i gota pitch this...but then the huge raise was very suspicious to me.....1st scenario, he has a pocket pair, doesn't matter which. i dont think he raises any underpair here, much more likely to float. i don't think he raises a set so much. n i think he'd peel one off if TT/JJ cuz m line is reppin a strong hand. 2nd scenario, he has a bad hand that desperately wants me to fold cuz he read my pot sized bet as weakness.....because he seemed kinda rattled and frustrated, i went w/my 2nd read. n i think he called me with a gutty

i actually think i was gettin this hand in good, not because i have 6 outs. i was 90% certain i had the best hand......here it is

hand #2

ok so also some history. the last time this guy immediate min check raised me in position on a board of A Q Q, i 4 bet him with nothing, and he folded n showed 22. this time, he did the same thing again. given his previous action, i read him for not having the king, but somethin like 66/55. which i'm way ahead of. so i played this hand way ahead. everything later was for pure value. i did not doubt that i had the best hand...

hand #3

ok no reads this hand. i raised and cbet as usual. got a pretty quick call. which leads me to believe his hand is not too strong. the Ace hit the turn n i made a standard 2 barrel, he inst called again w/out thinking too much about it. this action leads me to believe that either he paired up the ace (floating me with Ace high) or he did not care about the Ace because he was drawing. the combinations of the board card and his quick calls lead me to believe that he had a weak hand, like a draw and maybe a 8 he refuses to laydown. on the river, i spiked my T. i wanted to shove here, but it made no sense to because i didnd' thtink he was bad enough to call with just an 8 here, and if i'm wrong w/my read, then i'm fucked. so i decided to check with the intention of showin it down free. it didn't work out to well as he thought bout it for just 3 seconds and pots the river. ok, this is very interesting here.

1st. quick call on flop. possible hand flush draw, K8/A8/T8. turn, would A8 call that quickly? a lota time i'd see a raise or a pause-call. now, all the draws missed. if he did have a bare 8, like K8, i have him and i induced a bluff. if he had a draw, he missed (i dun think he had the nut flush draw cuz he'll probably play that more aggressively on turn). T8/A8 i think would bet less for value here on the river and not be pot so quickly. i also think T8 wouldv'e folded to a turn bet. i don't think he can feel THAT confident if he floated me with like AJ, n made just a pair of Aces. all in all, i think it was a bluff, and i did induce him. so i made a pretty awesome call imo

overall, i played extremely solid today. read ppl like a book and laid down hands and tightened up my game. i ran at 22/20/5.5 today. and i'm up 4.4k. i did have some hands where it was coolers for other ppl but hey it happens both ways. if i can play like this everyday, i will destroy 2-4 so badly......btw, trev bro keep your head up, we all know you can play, start grinding 25nl man. remember, i was there just 3.5 months ago!

This is gona be a rant post....

in all honesty, i think coaching is pretty -ev for me. first of all, i'm coaching my future enemies lol, and also, its totally draining my mental energy. therefore, i have raised my rate attempting to leave out the students who are not very dedicated. I will further increase my rate in the future and also kick out the students who are not dedicated to get my total student count down to 4 or so....

my rates will be pretty high then but i feel like I have a tremendous amount of information to offer and i coach better than i play...so if you play like i coach you, you should kill any limit up to 2-4 for 5ptbb's..........i'm also going to do one lesson max a day. so if you have a specific time you wana book, do it early

poker has beeen going pretty rough for me. 4 losing days in a row....i've contained the losses, but needless to say, it is extremely frustrating. i've had several coolers, nothing out of the ordinary. one thing thats been kiling me is that i've been bluffin a lot. if i sense weakness from someone, i pound it, usually i'm right, but i get called anyway because pppl hate folding.....BK said my plays are very very advanced and my reasons behind it are logical, however, its probably too advanced for 400nl; i think he is right and therefore, i will be tightening up my game quiet a bit the next few days. i'm also looking to put in a ton of hands in this weekend as this month as of now i only have 35k hands at 2-4 running at 4ptbb, not pleased at all

many ppl, top pros even, tell me that 4ptbb is a very nice winrate. i however, am never satisfied. call me a perfectioninst, overachiever, whatever, i'm here to win big, not marginal. i'm here trying to make it to the top, and i believe i will one day. i'm not here to be just another winning poker player. i wana be extraordinary, i wana be famous, rich all that shit. i have high ambitions and 4ptbb is just not acceptable. i'm gona work very hard to get that up to 5. if i cannot, then no 600 for me. thats it for now folks

high (not really) mid stakes poker players takin the all star weekend off for some fine merlot n chardonnay by the jacuzzi. we've got stickboney to the left n boosh on the right

this is results brag post. first 30k hands at nl 400.... i guess you can call this domination? i don't know. i will say i'm dominating it once my winrate is steadily over 6ptbb lol. reach? no. sustainable? think so. i'm up 9.5k or so in the past 4-5 days, pretty awesome i'd say

ok. this is a reminder post. when i lose some money and am on mega tilt, this picture will make me think, ok, i guess i have a reason to love poker and take these retarded beats......

Thursday, February 15, 2007

Alright Ryan, this post is for you.

ok so my goal initially was to take the entire february to move up to 2-4 but it looks like as of today I am already extremely comfortable with it. i've played a total of 25k hands and have made a profit of just over $8k running at 4ptbb even. not too shabby if you ask me.

i have to however, give credit to peter and brendan for making this transition possible. my initial shot at 2-4 was taken with peter under a joint session. we played for 2 hours and I think I did very well and felt like I could beat these players. not just by a lil, but very badly. the money thing I was worried about wasn't really affecting me much i have no idea why....the next couple of days I got some lessons from Brendan and he reassured me that my game was very solid and I should be able to crush 2-4....I feel like I CAN crush 2-4 and I probably will, but I wana do it for a good winrate....not something like 4.0. I wana beat it for 5+. During the past 25k hands, I've tilted quiet a bit, and ran pretty damn bad for awhile, 2mororw i will try to post some of my sickest coolers hands for some of the biggest pots i've ever played.....

yesterday i ran SO terrible it was unbelievable but thanks to brendan sweating, i didn't tilt n only lost 2 buy ins...I regrouped today and ran goot and played goot for the most part...run goot + play goot = $$$$$$. yeah so I made $3.6k today.....9 buy ins...i'll take it

right now i'm just gona focus on playing goot, solid poker, instead of trying to be the boss

Alright its that time of the month again....lets look at some results

hands: 51147
$ won: $9019.06
bb/100: 4.7ptbb
rake paid: $5841.52

rb: ~$1.7k
bonus: $1k

Ok it looks like this month i am up approximately $11.7k in about 52k hands. Although I am never satisfied, I have to say that I'm very proud to make an income of this magnitude in my 3rd month of starting over. I really feel like poker can take me a long way if I just stick with it. I never really think about where I actually am in terms of skill level and bankroll level....but with the buzz surrounding me these days, I've realized how much ahead I am compared to most other online "pros"

obviously, i am no match to the top pros in the likes of GP, muddy, stinger, etc skill wise or bankroll wise. But i feel very confident that I can hold my own at the 2-4 level against a lot of regulars and I feel like I totally dominate 1-2. For a lot of ppl, beating 1-2 at 5ptbb/100 is a reach, and for me, although I can't say its easy, but its definitely not something extremely difficult. Lets put it this way, I consider beating 1-2 on ub MUCH easier than tryingto pass my cognitive neuroscience class.....a lot of ppl can pass and even ace that class, but how many ppl can consistently beat 1-2 nl online? bankroll wise i'm in tremendous shape....i have with rb just about 26-27k. that is a huge roll......

I feel very blessed that I found this opportunity for myself. Many ppl in taiwan struggle to make 10k US in A YEAR! and i'm sitting here playing online poker 3-4 hours a day and making that....anyways, I just wanted to say that I finally feel like I've reached and surpasssed the breakthrough level of low limit cash games. If i can breakthrough the pressure point of middle limit cash games, then I honestly think I can make a very good living and will probably be ready to tell my dad. I really want to share this with him but I'm not sure how he is going to take it. I want it so badly to become very famous 1 day from poker and just surprise him and make him think "wow my son is a superstar" I just want to make him proud and show anyone who ever doubted me in my game. I have on doubt that I will break through the mid limits. Not saying its easy, but I WILL make it through and be at the 5-10 game soon.

I also want to thank numerous CR and 2+2 members for constantly giving me such high praise. It makes me feel great when "good" winning players are watching me as observers to try to learn and ppl who are at lower limits lookiing up to me and constantly msging me regarding questions with hands. my sn was very not known before but within this month, it is all over the CR and 2p2 forums. virtually anyone who plays low limits knows booshiet1 and fears him. Although i'm just beating low limit, i still feel very proud about that. In February I will concentrate on completely moving up to 2-4. I would probably be happy if I can however put in just 40k hands at 2-4 in Feb and I hope my winrate stays above 4pt and also not tilt as much....when you play as much as I do, you really do start to realize how much tilt kills u and how everything will equal out in the long run....

After getting my ass kicked REALLY badly the past couple of days. I have come to some resolution and I think this rough trip has given me a lot of mental training...

1. I get too arrogant and think I'm the next Taylor Caby when I win. I feel like i'm on top of the world but in reality my game is no where near the top of the world. yes I beat 200nl on UB, which is one of the toughest sites to play on, but I don't have any bragging rights and I certainly shouldn't feel so arrogant about my game.

2. Being so arrogant resulted in me trying to play even more hands. I just feel like I can make it up by "outplaying ppl post flop." maybe I could, but at this point, I'm not doing it very well. The bottom line is, I don't think its optimal.

3. I focus a lot of getting good stats. Perhaps it makes me feel like wow I can actually win playing sucha difficult style, and perhaps I wish to show off to ppl my amazing stats. I think I got carried away and focused too much on it. I need to play a style that fits best for the game...

4. umm..I still go on tilt.....and I need to distinguish who to fire at and who not to.

5. I tutored Ryan today. imo it went well. I think I explained myself pretty clearly and got him to think differently. I think I gave him a lot of information within the short time. I actually enjoyed tutoring him, not for the sake of money, but the fact that I can actually say out my thought process and explain everything to him. When I play, I tend to not think too much and just go with my instincts; however, I think I always need to be thinking. After tutoring him I played a very good session and went up 4 buy ins.

6. Peter this is what I think we should do when you come to Irvine. I just read a article by Paul Wasicka and he talked about doing "joint sessions" and it has a variety of benefits. Basically, when you come to my place, we'll play on 1 account, we decide on the limit, make decisions together, and split the loss/profits. This way, we get to see a different perspective of play and I think its just a good way to learn.
